Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS)? How does this differ from a registered dietitian (RD)?
The Certified Nutrition Specialists (CNS) certifying board requires:
- An advanced degree (masters or doctorate) in nutrition or related field from an accredited program
- 1,000 hours supervised clinical practice
- Passing score on the rigorous CNS exam
Nutritionists with the CNS credential tend to be trained from an integrative or functional lens, with emphasis on preventive health, personalized care, and supporting individuals with chronic health conditions.
We are not trained to do acute care, such as required in some hospital settings, as registered dietitians (RDs) are.
Do you take insurance?
I do not currently take insurance at this time, though I’m in the credentialing process and will be accepting it in the next few months!
